Scams campaign scoops award

The National Trading Standards Scams Team has seen its pioneering Friends Against Scams campaign recognised at the Government Counter Fraud Awards. The NTS Scams Team scooped the Excellence in Fraud Awareness award for the campaign.

The Friends Against Scams campaign aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering communities to ‘Take a Stand Against Scams’. It was created to tackle the lack of scams awareness by providing information about scams and those who fall victim to them.

The Government Counter Fraud Awards recognise and celebrate the innovative work and technical excellence of the professionals striving to prevent, detect and recover fraud losses in the public services.

Louise Baxter, National Trading Standards Scams Team Manager, said:

“I’m really pleased that the Friends Against Scams campaign has been recognised for its efforts in raising awareness of scams. Scams blight the lives of many people across the country and harm our communities. This campaign is about empowering people in communities all over the country so they can understand scams, talk about scams and help prevent scams – we want people to Take a Stand Against Scams!”
